OPC UA (OPC Unified Architecture) is a platform-independent communication protocol for data exchange released by the OPC Foundation in 2008. In injection molding machines, OPC UA is used as a common communication standard for providing data to higher-level systems such as MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems).
・Since communication standards vary by injection molding machine manufacturer, the development of communication software is required, resulting in high costs for system construction during implementation.
By equipping injection molding machines with OPC UA server functionality, the machines can provide approximately 200 data points to the MES, including operational status, production volume, molded part information, and key molding conditions.
OPC UA enables the MES to centrally manage production information, including data from injection molding machines manufactured by different vendors.

Compared to conventional PC communication functions (Ethernet), OPC UA eliminates the need to develop communication software for each molding machine manufacturer, resulting in significant savings on system construction costs during implementation.
